Abstract:
Catalysts based on oxides of metals of variable valency (Cr, Mo, W, or V) have been investigated in the polymerization of ethylene at 75 and 15 atm in benzine solution. Using the method of terminating the polymerization reaction with radioactive alcohol, it was found that such catalysts have an identically polarized active bond, and consequently a common chain growth reaction mechanism. The magnitude of the growth rate constant increases in the series W, Mo, Cr and in the series V, Cr.
