Abstract: A method is described for determining diffusion coefficients under both steady- state and nonsteady- state conditions during a single experiment from the magnitudes of the diffusion counterfluxes through a catalyst tablet. The nonsteady- state diffusion coefficient is found by a time- delay method when steady- state concentrations are achieved in the fluxes. The absence of a pressure drop in the tablet, which is necessary for the usual application of the time- delay method, permits elimination of the viscous flow in macroscopic pores and the associated overestimates of the effective diffusion coefficient.
