Abstract: The main features of pyrolysis of biomass and undistillable naphtha residue under microwave (MW) heating have been considered. It has been experimentally shown that approach of thermal decomposition in contact with microwave absorbing catalyst particles placed into liquid substrate is applicable to pyrolysis of undistillable naphtha residue. The effective MW pyrolysis of different types of biomass without the injection of a microwave receptor is carried out by optimised lab-scale microwave arrangement. The obtained experimental data can be used as a basis of comparison MW pyrolysis and microwave-assisted pyrolysis (MP).
