Abstract:
The propagation mechanism in the prepn. of polyethylene [9002-88-4] on supported chromium oxide (CrO3) [1333-82-0] catalysts was detd. by stopping polymn with radioactive methanol [67-56-1]. The growing polymer mol. combined with the alkoxyl group, indicating that the C atom in the active bond attached to the catalyst has a pos. charge. Detn. of the concn. of active centers and propagation rate consts. for CrO3 supported on alumina [1344-28-1], zirconium oxide [1314-23-4], titanium dioxide [13463-67-7], and silica [7631-86-9] showed that the rate const. increased with increasing electronegativity of the support element.
