Abstract: The activation of bis(imino)pyridine nickel(II) dichloride complexes [LNiCl2] with methylalumoxane (MAO) and AlMe3/[CPh3][B(C6F5)4] was studied by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Formation of similar outer-sphere ion pairs of the types [LNiMe]+[MeMAO]− and [LNiMe]+[B(C6F5)4]−, capable of promoting norbornene polymerization, was observed.
