Abstract: Nanoscale particles of titanium dioxide with rutile crystal modification are synthesized by the thermolysis of TiCl4 in the presence of HCl. It is found that the temperature regime at certain molar ratios of [H2O]/[Ti] and [Cl]/[Ti] is the key factor which determines the formation of titanium dioxide crystal phases and their proportion in the reaction mixture.
