Abstract:
The catalytic oxidation of EtOH and iso-PrOH on chromium catalyst was investigated by IR spectra. The oxidation was effected in a specially designed cuvette which allowed measurement of the IR spectra of vapors as well as compounds adsorbed on the catalyst surface. C2D5OD was used as ref. The catalyst was prepared by thermal decomposition of (NH4)2Cr2O7, washing the product with H2O, and drying at 500° with air. The catalyst layer was electrostatically sprayed on silica plates, and treated with O under vacuum at 250°. The oxidation was carried out at 20°, 150°, and 300°.
