Abstract:
This chapter surveys some advances in the field of liquid-phase selective oxidation with environmentally benign oxidants, such as molecular oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and alkyl hydroperoxides, using heterogeneous porous catalysts. The following types of catalysts will be considered: transition-metal-substituted molecular sieves (zeolites and aluminophosphates), mesoporous metal–silicates, metal–organic frameworks, and polyoxometalates, incorporated within various porous matrixes. A selection of the results reported in the literature was made to demonstrate how spatial confinement can affect catalyst activity, selectivity, productivity, and stability. The scope and limitations of such catalysts for the synthesis of oxygen-containing products are discussed. Special attention is paid to mechanistic aspects of the oxidation reactions in confined environment.
