Abstract:
Adsorption heat transformation is promising energy saving technology. It makes possible the use of energy from low-grade heat sources (solar, geothermal and waste heat). In order to increase the adsorption heat transformer’s (AHT) efficiency, it is important to organize optimal heat-mass transfer inside adsorber-heat exchanger (AdHex). The aim of this study is to look for the optimal heat exchanger (Hex) geometries to ensure the greater AHT efficiency that will make it possible to give recommendations for the design of more efficient and compact devices. A number of traditional (parallel fins, square arrays, hexagonal honeycombs) and more complex (three-periodic Schwarz surfaces) Hex’s geometries have been theoretically investigated. The most promising samples were made by the 3D printing method. For manufactured Hexes, the global heat transfer coefficients UA were experimentally determined. The results demonstrated that changing the geometry of the secondary heat-removing block from a regular (ordinary slot) to a three-periodic (gyroid) leads to the UA increase by 30-40%. This confirms that the periodic Schwartz surfaces are promising geometries for designing of more efficient and compact AHTs.
