Abstract: The influence of the nature of alcohols (MeOH, EtOH, 1-PrOH, 2-PrOH, 2-BuOH, and CyOH) on the process of hydrodechlorination of chlorobenzene (PhCl) under conditions of hydrogen transfer in the presence of (Ni, Co)Mo sulfide catalysts was investigated. It was found that the efficiency of chlorine removal depends on the nature of the alcohol: 2-PrOH > 2-BuOH > MeOH > CyOH > 1-PrOH > EtOH. Minor products (alkylbenzenes) were observed only for secondary alcohols such as 2-PrOH, 2-BuOH, and CyOH. The results demonstrate the potential of alcohols (2-PrOH, 2-BuOH, CyOH, and MeOH) as alternative hydrogen donors for the environmentally safe processing of organochlorine waste.
