Abstract: A high-siliea ZSM-5 zeolite (SiO2/Al2O3=40) was synthesized and used to produce Mo-containing catalysts by different methods. Using the methods of high-resolution electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and thermoprogrammed ammonia desorption the composition and acidic properties of Mo-ZSM-5 catalysts were studied. The catalytic tests of the samples were carried out in the process of non-oxidative methane conversion at 750°C. It has been shown that two forms of molybdenum-containing particles are stabilized during the reaction: molybdenum carbide particles (of size 2-10 nm) located on the zeolite surface, and clusters (of size less than 1 nm) located inside its channels. It has been established that the clusters of oxidized molybdenum are the main sites of methane activation localized in open molecular pores of a zeolite
