Abstract:
Heterogenous catalysts for sucrose conversion based on cell membranes of autolyzed baker's yeast cells with invertase activity have been investigated. The byocatalysts were obtained by immobilizing cell membranes on carbon-containing macrostructured ceramic carriers. In addition to biocatalytic characteristics, the effect of morphological properties of a surface carbon layer and chemical properties of the carrier surface on the activity and stability of the adsorbed yeast membranes were studied. It was shown that the layer of filamentous carbon on the carrier surface provided for the optimal morphology and hydrophilic/hydrophobic characteristics to ensure a complete retention of the invertase activity and stability of soluble membranes in the adsorbed form.
