Abstract: Inorganic nanocomposites containing nanoparticles of transition metals and their alloys with a narrow size distribution are of interest as materials for recording information, as selective catalysts, and for other applications. These composites can be obtained by chemical reactions of layered double hydroxides that contain transition metal complexes in the interlayer space and act as specific nanoreactors. Of particular interest are double hydroxides with the [Ni(EDTA)]2– complex in the interlayer space, which make it possible to obtain nickel nanoparticles 3–5 nm in size, on average, with a narrow size distribution. The mechanism of formation of metallic nickel nanoparticles in these nanoreactors and their magnetic properties are very poorly understood; their study is the aim of this work.
