Abstract:
By EPR technique, it was shown that the yields of trapped paramagnetic F+ and V- centers in the radiolysis of finely divided magnesium oxide strongly depended on the specific surface area of samples (70-450 m(2)/g) and the presence of scavengers (molecular hydrogen or nitrous oxide) and could reach abnormally high values up to 10 species/100 eV. To explain these high yields, plausible mechanisms of selective ionization of crystal lattice defects with low ionization potential were proposed.
