Abstract: The effect of Ca(OH)(2) calcination conditions on the specific surface area and pore structure of the resultant CaO was studied, Materials with a large specific surface area and pore volume were obtained by vacuum calcination. Exposure to air was found to give rise to hydration and carbonation of CaO, accompanied by a decrease in specific surface and total pore volume.
