Abstract: The highly dispersed Pt species were stabilized in the bulk of Zr-silicate glass. By means of STEM-HAADF and XPS with ion etching it was shown that positively charged 1-1.5 nm Pt clusters are located at a depth of 10-20 nm. In spite of a very low noble metal content (0.01-0.02%), the Pt/FG catalysts revealed a higher performance in both VOC and CVOC abatement in comparison with conventional ones containing 30-60 times more platinum. In particular, the catalyst almost completely destructed the dioxin up to acceptable level of 0.4 ppb. Moreover, the TOF was 5-10 times higher as compared with the alumina-, or silica-supported Pt catalysts. The SSITKA study showed that molecular oxygen species activated on metal clusters are involved in deep oxidation of hydrocarbons. The high performance of the fiberglass catalyst in VOC removal was successfully confirmed at the industrial level.
