Abstract: The Ag/SiO2 catalysts were prepared on the basis of silica with different concentrations of OH-groups and investigated in selective oxidation of ethanol and low-temperature CO oxidation. It was stated that the dispersion, structure of silver nanoparticles and their reaction ability towards oxygen and CO depended on the OH/Ag ratio (molar ratio between amount of OH-groups on the silica surface and silver in the prepared catalysts). A volcano-like dependence of the catalytic properties of Ag/SiO2 catalysts in the low-temperature CO oxidation on the OH/Ag ratio is observed. Moreover, two types of active sites were observed, however, only one of them was active at ambient conditions. The effect of OH/Ag ratio on the catalytic properties of the Ag/SiO2 catalysts in the ethanol oxidation is negligible due to similar amount of active sites. It was shown by DRIFTS that ethanol oxidation occurs at the silver-silica interface.
