Organic waste products and secondary hydrocarbon mixtures are brought into contact with a catalyst in conditions of raised temperature and pressure with or without the presence of hydrogen. The catalyst will be binary oxide systems of group III, IV, V and VI elements, in the form of a shell with a system of molecule-sized channels, and with isomorphic substitution of cations with a 4+ charge in the shell on cations with a 3+ charge, there being a) not more than one cation of an isomorphically substituting element in the second co-ordinate sphere of silicon atoms in the crystal lattice, and b) virtually no cations of isomorphically substituting elements or (non-phase) oxide formations thereof from the shell on the outer surface of the crystals.
