The catalyst with increased activity and selectivity for oxidn. of olefins to carbonyl compds. is prepd. by dissolving PdCl2 in an aq. soln. of molybdovanadophosphoric acid (I). I is prepd. by mixing the corresponding salts, oxides or acids (mainly Na3PO4.12H2O, MoO3, and V2O5), reducing with a reducing agent not cleaving halide ions (e.g., N2H4.H2SO4) and then oxidizing with an oxidizing agent not cleaving halide ions (esp. air).
