The method includes hydrolysis of esters of orthosilicic acid and dissolved in an alc. in the presence of a catalyst, gelation of the substance in molds to form blocks of alkogel in the alc., removal of the alc., conversion of alkogel to aerogel in an autoclave (at supercrit. pressures and temps. in the beginning and then at atm. pressure and room temp.), and fixing of aerogel. To increase yield of nondeformed and crack-free aerogel blocks, alc. is removed, and conversion of alkogel to aerogel is done in a sectional autoclave, and the alkogel-contg. molds are provided with covers before placing into the autoclave.
