Elemental S is produced by liq. phase catalytic oxidn. of H2S with O or air in the presence of Co sulfophthalocyanin (I) in neutral or alk. medium. To increase product yield, the I is mixed with a soln. of SiO2 in fluorosilicic acid in an amt. such that their concn. in the reaction mixt. becomes (0.9-1.1) × 10-5 mol/L and (0.5-1.5) × 10-3 mol/L, resp. Preferably, the reaction mixt. is kept in an atm. of N for 3-6 min before oxidn. The process is carried out at pH 6.5-10.
