The sorbent has a compn. of C 5-40, Fe or Ni 0.5-5 wt.%, and the balance porous Al2O3 (as base). The method of prepn. of the sorbent comprises heating of porous Al2O3 in a gas along with an org. compd. at an elevated temp. In order to increase the sp. surface area and the mech. strength, the Al2O3 is soaked initially in the Fe or Ni salt soln., then decompd. into their resp. oxides by heating to 300° in an inert atm. and then reduced to the metal in a H2 atm. at 450-600°.
