The mol. wt. of polyethylene (I) [9002-88-4] was regulated and the catalyst activity was improved in gas-phase or suspension polymn. of ethylene in the presence of Cr oxide or supported Ti catalysts by conducting the polymn. in 2 stages: (1) at 20-80° to 10-1000 g I yield/g catalyst and (2) at 90-120° until the desired mol. wt. was obtained.
