SO3 is obtained by oxidn. of SO2 with atm. O at increased temp. in an adiabatic reactor with several catalyst layers by stabilizing the temp. of the reaction mixt. For increasing the output, the highest permissible temp. of the reaction mixt. is stabilized at the outlet of the 1st layer of a catalyst by changing the reaction mixt. temp. at the entry to the first layer or by changing the amt. of the reaction mixt. entering the first layer, or by both ways simultaneously.
