The material for accumulating heat consists of a thermally inert matrix and of a heat-sensitive active substance. The matrix consists of a substance with open pores and the active substance consists of a hygroscopic substance capable of undergoing reversible dehydration-hydration processes which are marked by the regions of peaks on the curves of the X-ray diffraction patterns of the products A and B. Application as means for heating and/or cooling of gaseous media and as fire-resistant agent for stifling combustions.
