The adsorbents having a composite structure include ≥1 porous solid matrix and ≥1 hygroscopic substance. The solid matrix is selected from a group contg. silica gel, Al2O3, polymers, activated C, porous metals, and clay minerals with an expanded structure. The hygroscopic substance is an inorg. salt selected from a group contg. CaCl2, LiBr, LiCl, MgCl2, LiOH, Ca(OH)2, and Mg(OH)2. The pore size of the solid matrix is 3-20 nm. A method for prepn. of the adsorbents involves (1) prepn. of a 30-60 wt.% aq. soln. of the hygroscopic substance and (2) impregnation of the solid matrix to fill the pores. The adsorbents are suitable for heat pumps and adsorption refrigerators.
