Abstract: The catalytic partial oxidation of methane (POM) to syngas conducted at high pressures and temperatures demands active catalysts with high thermal stability [1-2]. Complex zirconium phosphates of a NASICON type structure have a higher sintering resistance and a lower thermal expansion coefficient than conventional supports such as cordierite, t~-A1203, etc. Further, a flexible structure of these framework phosphates allows to incorporate various substituting cations into the lattice [3-5], and, hence, to regulate their acid/base properties important at least for side reactions (coking, methane dimerization etc). Hence, such systems appear to be promising as supports for POM catalysts. In this work, powdered framework zirconium phosphates MeZr4P6024 loaded with LaNiO3, LaNio_x)Rt~Oy, LaNio.x)IrxOy, LaCo(1.x)IrxOy have been studied as catalysts for POM. To elucidate the factors determining their catalytic properties, chemical composition, real structure of the bulk and surface properties of the catalysts and supports have been investigated.
