Abstract:
Among a series of low-oxidation state transition-metal (Mo, W, V, Zr) catalysts on oxide carriers the catalysts containing isolated Mo(II) ions were most active in NH3 synthesis. For the catalyst prepared by a reaction of π-allyl Mo (Mo(C3H5)4) with SiO2 the catalytic activity per Mo atom did not change when the Mo concentration on SiO2 changed from 1017 to 1018 ions/m2 and the NH3-synthesis activation energy was const., ∼25 kcal/mole. The catalytic activity of Mo(II) depended greatly on the oxide-carrier nature. The SiO2, Al2O3, Cr2O3, Fe2O3, and Co3O4 were investigated as the carriers.
