Abstract: The acidic centers of CuCr2O4.CuO catalyzed the reductive amination of Me2CO with PhNH2. The rate of PhNHCHMe2 accumulation increased with the acidity of the catalyst surface, and was accompanied by high catalytic activity toward hydrogenation of the C:N bond of the intermediate PhN:CMe2 and low activity toward Me2CO hydrogenation. Ionic Cu catalyzed side reactions, and was undesirable.
