Abstract:
As it is known, propylene is able to react with H-2/O-2 mixture over gold particles supported on titania to give selectively propylene oxide. In the present work, similar epoxidation of propylene is achieved through the use of CO instead of hydrogen as the reduction agent. The propylene oxide yield goes through the maximum as a function of reaction time, the maximal value being twice higher compared to the yield of propylene oxide attained by "traditional" reaction with H-2/O-2 mixture. The propylene oxide selectivity attains 93% at propylene conversion of 2%. Utilization efficiency of CO reaches 25%, which is comparable to that of H-2.
