Abstract: Model objects consisting of Ag and Pt nanoparticles deposited on the surface of thin oxide films (Al2O3 and MoOx) on conducting substrates were studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The problems of the interpretation of the obtained STM images of inhomogeneous sample surfaces are discussed, as well as special approaches and techniques allowing identification of metal nanoparticles among profile features of a carrier surface.
